Afeni Shakur, Tupac’s Mother: Dies at 69!

On Tuesday morning, May the 3rd, the Marin County Sheriff’s department reported that Tupac Shakur’s mother, Afeni Shakur, died during the night of Monday the 2nd of May at her 69 years old.

The Sheriff’s coroners will follow-up the investigation, as tweets from that exact source confirm. So far, Shakur Davis died of an alleged cardiac arrest circa 9:30 pm at her own residence on the night of Monday the 2nd of May.

Alice Faye Williams, Afeni Shakur’s born name, was born in North Carolina on the 10th of January of 1947, in Lumberton.

She grew up to become recognized as a political activist and Black Panther party member and even got arrested with some of her party’s comrades under the charges of conspiring to bomb police stations and public places in New York in April, 1969.

During the trial to those charges, she was pregnant of Tupac Amaru Shakur, who was born in 1971, on the 16th of June of 1971. Following that period, she struggled with drug problems during the 80s, coming clean during the 90s as she reconciled with Tupac, who wrote the song “Dear Mama” to testify her struggles.

Tupac was killed in a drive by shooting in 1996 that was never resolved, and his mother Afeni became the executor for the estate and founded the Amaru Entertainment company to release her son’s posthumous albums, as well as the Amaru Foundation for the Arts charity, that helps in getting the young people involved with arts.

Afeni was also a key part in bringing Holler If Ya Hear Me to Broadway during the year of 2014.
